Case Study: 73,000 Volume Department Transforms Processes and Increases Collaboration
We were tasked with improving efficiency of a 24-bed, level 1 trauma center facing operational challenges and extremely siloed care delivery. The department was being run by a different service line and was not well resourced.
Our team worked with the medical director and hospital administration to define department culture and metrics goals. We then turned to the clinical team to ensure we had clinicians in place who were rooted in the community and empowered to practice with a sense of purpose. We prioritized improving physician-nurse communication and implemented a real-time patient feedback process.
Within nine months, these efforts resulted in:
11.4% to 1.2%
DROP IN LWBS METRICS
IN LENGTH OF STAY
76% to 90%
INCREASE IN PRESS GANEY SCORES
